The Book of Juntós emerges from a creative collaboration and a close friendship between Familia Editions and Ayrson Heráclito. Rooted in spirituality, Heráclito’s artistic research explores the symbology of Candomblé—an Afro-Brazilian religion—and the pantheon of the Orixás.
The Juntós series is dedicated to the elements and tools related to the pantheon of Candomblé deities, establishing a dialogue with the idea of combining the different divinities that rule the head of every human being.
In Candomblé, Juntó refers to the union of two Orixás—one primary and one complementary—that guides each individual. In this work, the artist developed a series of 222 drawings in which all possible combinations between the 16 most worshiped Orixás in Brazil are represented through their symbols. All the Juntó drawings featured in this artist book are accompanied by "text-poems" explaining the meanings of each combination in Yoruba, Portuguese, and English.
This artist book is a limited edition of 500 copies, of which 50 are a special edition that includes a stainless steel sculpture representing the Juntó of Exu and Xangô, whose symbols are called Tridente and Oxê.
